Language and Parole
“Langue” is a word in French, but if we translate it into English, it will be “Language.” The Swiss linguist Ferdinand de Saussure in his “Course in General Linguistics,” used two terms: Langue and Parole. Let us understand this matter more easily.
The people of a certain area can express or communicate with each other through signs or symbols, which is called Langue. But Parole depends on every person in that area. Parole is the style in which they communicate with each other.

In short, “Langue” refers to a specific language, while “parole” denotes the manner or style of using and presenting this language. For example, if someone is speaking French to us, we would not understand them until we learn French. In this case, French is a language to us or to whoever is speaking it. The speaker must have a style of speaking, and that is parole. This is variable because everyone speaks in a different style.
Langue হচ্ছে ফরাসি ভাষার একটি শব্দ তবে এটিকে ইংরেজি ভাষায় অনুবাদ করলে হয় Language, বাংলায় আমরা যেটাকে ভাষা বলে থাকি। সুইস ভাষাবিদ Ferdinand de Saussure তার “Course in General Linguistics”-এ দুইটি শব্দ ব্যবহার করেছেন একটি Langue এবং আরেকটি Parole। এই বিষয়টি আরও সহজে জেনে নেওয়া যাক।
নির্দিষ্ট কোন এলাকার মানুষ যে সাইন, সিম্বল এর মাধ্যমে নিজেদের মধ্যে ভাব প্রকাশ বা যোগাযোগ করতে পারে এটাকেই বলা হয় Langue। কিন্তু Parole নির্ভর করে ঐ এলাকার প্রত্যেকটা মানুষের উপর। তারা যে স্টাইলে একেকজন যোগাযোগ করে সেই স্টাইলটাই হচ্ছে Parole।
তাহলে সংক্ষেপে যদি আমরা বলি, Langue হচ্ছে কোন নির্দিষ্ট ভাষা (সবার জন্য) এবং এই ভাষাটি কে উপস্থাপন বা ব্যবহার করার ধরণই হচ্ছে Parole। উদাহরণস্বরূপ, মনে করেন, কেউ আমাদের সামনে ফরাসি ভাষায় কথা বলল আমরা সেটা নিশ্চয়ই বুঝতে পারব না, যতক্ষণ না আমরা ফরাসি ভাষা শিখছি।

আমাদের কাছে বা যে কথা বলছে তার কাছেও ফরাসি ভাষাটি Langue। আর যে কথা বলছে তার নিশ্চয় একটা কথা বলার স্টাইল আছে, সেটিই হচ্ছে Parole। এটি পরিবর্তনশীল কারণ একেকজন একেকভাবে স্টাইল করে কথা বলে।
