What is the American Dream in Death of A Salesman?

American Dream: The term "American dream" was coined in a best-selling book in 1931 titled Epic of America. James Truslow Adams described it as "that dream of a land in which life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement. Willy's American dream is to leave his thumbprint on the world through his oldest child Biff. Willy was unable to succeed in doing so through a lifelong career as a salesman and living under the ideology that being well-liked was far more important than working hard to be successful.
