প্রথম স্টেঞ্জায় কবি বলেছেন মৃত্যু অনিবার্য। মৃত্যু অবশ্যই হবে। তাই বলে মানুষের উচিত নয় মৃত্যুকে সাদরে গ্রহণ করা। এখানে তিনি মানুষের চারটা ক্যাটাগরি করেছেন। wise men, good men, wild men, and grave men। দ্বিতীয় স্টেঞ্জায় কবি বলেছেন, জ্ঞানী (wise men) মানুষেরা মৃত্যুকে সহজে গ্রহণ করে না। কারণ তারা এটা বিশ্বাস করে যে পৃথিবীকে তাদের অনেক কিছু দেওয়ার আছে।

তৃতীয় স্টেঞ্জায় কবি ভালো মানুষের(good men) কথা বলেছেন। তাদেরও জ্ঞানী মানুষদের মতোই পৃথিবীকে অনেক কিছু দেওয়ার আছে। তাদের জীবনের শেষ মুহূর্ত সমুদ্র স্রোতের মতোই অতিবাহিত হয়ে যায়। এতে তারা খুব কম পরিমাণেই বিলাপ করে। তারা পৃথিবীতে যুগান্তকারী পরিবর্তন আনে।

কবির মতে যারা বন্য (wild) অথবা প্রাচুর্যের মধ্যে থাকে ,তারা বুঝতেই পারে না যে জীবনের সূর্য কখন অস্ত্র চলে যায়। তারা জীবনের সৌন্দর্য উপভোগ করতে পারে না। আর এমত অবস্থাতেই মৃত্যু তাদের আলিঙ্গন করে।

শেষ স্তবকটিতে, কবিতাটি আরও ব্যক্তিগত হয়ে ওঠে যখন বক্তা তাদের পিতাকে সম্বোধন করেন, যিনি পাহাড়ের চূড়ার মতো মৃত্যুর কাছে আসছেন, একই অনুরোধের সাথে, অবাধ্যতা এবং বেঁচে থাকার আবেগ নিয়ে মৃত্যুর কাছে যেতে। কবিতাটি মৃত্যুর মুখোমুখি হওয়া সম্পর্কে একটি সর্বজনীন বার্তা থেকে একটি আবেগপূর্ণ বার্তায় পরিবর্তন করেছে যা বক্তা এবং তার নিজের দুঃখের বিষয়ে যেমন সে সম্বোধন করে তাদের সম্পর্কে।

English summary:

In the first stanza, the poet says that death is inevitable. Death must happen. Therefore, people should not accept death. Here he has made four categories of people. wise men, good men, wild men, and grave men. In the second stanza, the poet says, wise men do not accept death easily. Because they believe that they have a lot to offer the world. In the third stanza, the poet talks about good men. They have much to offer the world, just like wise men. The last moments of their lives pass like the tide of the sea. They lament it very little. They bring revolutionary changes to the world. According to the poet, those who live in the wild or in abundance, do not understand when the sun of life goes out of arms. They cannot enjoy the beauty of life. And in such a condition death embraces them.

In the last stanza, the poem becomes more personal when the speaker addresses their father, who is approaching death like a mountain top, with the same request, to approach death with disobedience and a passion to live. The poem shifts from a universal message about facing death to an emotional message about the speaker and his own grief as he addresses those he addresses.
