Richard Steele (1672-1729) was a popular English essayist. He wrote with Addison (1672-1719) and started “The Spectator” in 1711. In “The Spectator Club” (Friday, March 2, 1711), Steele describes Will Honeycomb. He is an aging but lively gentleman. Honeycomb is known for his fashion, wit, and skills with ladies.
