How does Baroka seduce Sidi in The Lion and the Jewel In Soyinka s The Lion and the Jewel Baroka devises a plan to physically seduce Sidi Baroka is the village chief of Ilujinle He is cunning and a trickster Sidi s Sense of Pride Sidi is the most beautiful girl in the village She feels very special when her photograph is published in a magazine Baroka wants to add Sidi to his harem of wives But Sidi does not want to marry the old man She is proud of her beauty She thinks herself more important than the village bale chief Sidi says I am greater than the living god among men Baroka s Plan Trick Baroka starts a conspiracy with a fake rumor He tells his oldest wife Sadiku that he has lost his manhood sexual ability He laments for this great loss However Sadiku is happy because

of this she feels pride She dances and thinks she has sucked the power from him Sadiku shares this secret with Sidi Sidi laughs and thinks this is a good opportunity to shame mock Baroka Sidi thinks she will shame him and feel powerful She thinks now Baroka is harmless for her In reality this is Baroka s trap He knew that Sidi would come to mock him Sidi s Visit to Baroka s House During the visit Baroka wrestles with a strong man and defeats him Baroka does this because he wants to prove he is still powerful enough Sidi is confused but impressed Baroka invites Sidi for dinner He uses Sidi s vanity sense of pride He praises Sidi s beauty He tells her he is making a special stamp machine He wants to put her picture on the village stamps He says this will make her even more famous Sidi feels special She thinks Baroka is a powerful and wise man Sidi says Everything you say Bale Seems wise to me Sidi s head slowly falls on Baroka s shoulder Baroka jumps in and physically seduces her In short Baroka uses his trick and Sidi s vanity to seduce her nbsp
