words and behaviour He must always try to look wise calm and honourable He cannot relax like a common person In Whitehall and in London court life famous men had to protect their image all the time This pressure ties them down and takes away peace Finally Bacon says that a man in a high place must serve business His life becomes full of duties He must read reports solve problems sign papers and attend meetings He has no free time Even when he grows old he cannot rest easily His work controls his life So Bacon shows that a man in a high post serves the ruler serves his fame and serves his business He loses his liberty and becomes a servant in three ways
