Young Goodman Brown is the protagonist of the allegorical short story ‘Young Goodman Brown’ (1835) by Nathaniel Hawthorne (1804-1864). He strongly believes in his villagers, which is shaken by the devil’s meeting. Here, we will discover how he is wrong in his way of life.
General Description: Young Goodman Brown is a pious young man from Salem who is madly in love with his wife, Faith. His parents and grandparents are no longer alive, but his family has been in Salem for at least three generations.
Embarking on a Journey into the Forest: He starts a journey into the forest to discover the hidden issues. He tells his wife to pray and go to bed early before leaving. Initially, he sees an old man who looks like his grandfather. This old man tries to tempt him to join the evil congregation. In the forest, Goodman Brown finds his wife’s pink ribbon and utters:
“My faith is gone.”
Loss of Faith: In the devil’s meeting, Goodman finds all the noblemen of his Salem village. His belief gets shattered. He even finds his childhood religious teacher, Goody Cloyse, and his community minister. He utters at his point:
“Come, devil: for to thee is this world given.”

The next morning, he returns to his village and it cannot be easy. He has lost his faith. When he goes to church and sees the same people he saw at the meeting earlier, he can’t believe them. He fails to evaluate these people as they are partly wrong and partly redeemed. At this point, Goodman Brown goes wrong.

Loss of Faith: শয়তানের সভায়, গুডম্যান তার সালেম গ্রামের সমস্ত অভিজাত ব্যক্তিদের খুঁজে পান। তার বিশ্বাস ভেঙ্গে যায়। এমনকি তিনি তার শৈশবের ধর্মীয় শিক্ষক গুডি ক্লোজ এবং তার সম্প্রদায়ের মন্ত্রীকেও খুঁজে পান।
