A Refusal to Mourn the Death, by Fire, of a Child in London Bangla Summary (বাংলায়)
এই কবিতায় দ্বিতীয় বিশ্বযুদ্ধের যে ভয়াবহতা সারা পৃথিবীব্যাপী ঘটেছিল সেই ব্যাপারে আলোকপাত করা হয়েছে একটি শিশুর মৃত্যুর মধ্য দিয়ে। দ্বিতীয় বিশ্বযুদ্ধ চলাকালীন কবি তার যুবক বয়স পার করছেন এবং এই যুদ্ধে তিনি তার প্রিয়তমাকে হারিয়েছেন। দ্বিতীয় বিশ্বযুদ্ধের সময় লন্ডনে জার্মান সেনাবাহিনী বোমা হামলা করেছিল এবং সে সময়ে প্রায় 20000 মানুষ মারা জায়।এই মানুষদের মধ্যে একজন মেয়ে শিশু মারা গিয়েছিল যার মৃত্যুকে কেন্দ্র করেই কবিতাটি লেখা হয়েছে। কবি নিজে এই শিশুটির মৃত্যু নিয়ে শোক প্রকাশ করছেন না এবং অন্যদেরকেও সেটি করতে নিষেধ করেছেন। কারণ কবি মনে করেন যে এই কন্যা শিশুটির মৃত্যুতে যদি শোক প্রকাশ করা হয় তাহলে তার এই মৃত্যুকে অপমান করা হবে। অপমান করা হবে তার বীরত্ব কে।
কারণ যে শিশুটি মারা গেছে সে সারা জীবন বেঁচে থাকবে পৃথিবীর বুকে এবং বেঁচে থাকবে তার বীরত্ব গাথা আত্মত্যাগ। এজন্যই তিনি এই কবিতায় শিশুটির মৃত্যুর জন্য শোক প্রকাশ করতে এবং কান্নাকাটি করতে নিষেধ করেছেন।

A Refusal to Mourn the Death, by Fire, of a Child in London
This poem sheds light on the horrors of World War II that took place all over the world through the death of a child. The poet is passing his youth during World War II and he lost his beloved in this war. During World War II, London was bombed by the German army and around 20,000 people died. Among these people died a girl child whose death the poem is based on. The poet himself does not mourn the death of this child and forbids others to do the same. Because the poet thinks that if the death of this girl child is mourned then this death of her will be insulted. His bravery will be insulted.
Because the child who died will live on the earth for the rest of his life and will live his heroic saga of self-sacrifice. That is why he forbids mourning and crying for the death of the child in this poem.
