কবি, যিনি একজন প্রফেটের মত অতীত বর্তমান ও ভবিষ্যৎ সম্পর্কে জানেন: “Songs of Experience” কাব্যগ্রন্থের সূচনা-কবিতা হচ্ছে “Introduction”. কবিতাটি Songs of Innocence থেকে বিপরীতধর্মী একটি কবিতা। এই কবিতায় আর আগের মত সুখি ও চিন্তামুক্ত রাখাল-স্পিকারকে উপত্যকায় হেঁটে বাঁশি বাজাতে দেখা যায় না।

“Songs of Experience” কাব্যগ্রন্থের অনেক কবিতাতে আমরা “Songs of Innocence” এর কবিতার মত একই টাইটেল দেখতে পাই। কিন্তু “Songs of Experience” এর কবিতাগুলো experienced-দৃষ্টিভঙ্গি থেকে লেখা। এই কবিতাগুলোতে সমাজের অন্যায় অবিচার ও দুঃখ কষ্টের চিত্র উঠে আসে। যেমন, “The Chimney Sweeper” কবিতাতে চিমনী পরিষ্কারকারী ছোট বাচ্চাদের দুঃখ কষ্টের কথা উঠে এসেছে। এই অমানবিক শিশুশ্রমের জন্য শিশুদের বাবা-মা ও সমাজকে সমালোচনা করা হয়েছে।
