Francis Bacon Biography: Francis Bacon (1561–1626) ছিলেন একজন ইংরেজ দার্শনিক, প্রবন্ধকার ও রাষ্ট্রনায়ক। তিনি লন্ডনে এক অভিজাত পরিবারে জন্মগ্রহণ করেন। Bacon কেমব্রিজের Trinity College-এ পড়াশোনা করেন এবং পরে আইনজীবী হিসেবে কর্মজীবন শুরু করেন। তিনি রাজা James I-এর আমলে অ্যাটর্নি জেনারেল ও লর্ড চ্যান্সেলর হিসেবে দায়িত্ব পালন করেন। Bacon তাঁর প্রবন্ধগুলোর জন্য বিখ্যাত, পাশাপাশি তিনি বৈজ্ঞানিক পদ্ধতির বিকাশের জন্য স্মরণীয়। এই পদ্ধতি ছিল পর্যবেক্ষণ ও পরীক্ষার উপর ভিত্তি করে গঠিত। তাঁর উল্লেখযোগ্য গ্রন্থগুলোর মধ্যে রয়েছে — Essays, or Counsels, Civil and Moral (1625 – চূড়ান্ত সংকলন), Novum Organum (1620), এবং The Advancement of Learning (1605)।Bacon বিশ্বাস করতেন, জ্ঞান এমন হওয়া উচিত যা মানবজীবনকে উন্নত করতে পারে। তিনি ব্যবহারিক বিজ্ঞানের পক্ষে মত দিয়ে father of empiricism নামে পরিচিত হন। তাঁকে আরও Father of the English Essay বা father of the Modern English Essay বলা হয়। তিনি সংক্ষিপ্ত অথচ গভীর অর্থবহ বাক্যে লেখালেখি করতেন, যা ‘aphoristic style’ নামে পরিচিত। তাঁর জীবনে সাফল্য এলেও, তিনি এক সময় দুর্নীতির অভিযোগে অভিযুক্ত হন এবং রাজনৈতিক পদ থেকে অপসারিত হন। ১৬২৬ সালে তিনি বরফ/ঠান্ডার সাহায্যে মাংস সংরক্ষণ নিয়ে পরীক্ষা করার সময় নিউমোনিয়ায় আক্রান্ত হয়ে মারা যান। Bacon-এর চিন্তা ও দর্শন আধুনিক বিজ্ঞান ও দার্শনিক জগতের উপর গভীর প্রভাব ফেলেছে।

English Summary

The Nature of Truth: Truth is like naked and open daylight. It shows everything clearly, without tricks or lies. Bacon says the truth is the sovereign good of human nature. It is the highest thing a person can know, believe, and enjoy. Truth gives light to the mind, just like God gave light to the world. It helps us see the errors and wanderings of others from a high and clear place. Truth helps us be kind and loving to others. Truth helps us trust in God’s plan and feel peaceful. Truth keeps our mind steady and strong, like a compass that always points in the right direction.

Truth vs. Lies: Truth is valuable. It is like a pearl. It looks best in simple light. Lies are like diamonds—they shine in different lights but are not honest. Some people believe in false ideas. If we remove those ideas, many people will feel empty and sad. Bacon says poetry is like wine for the imagination. It is made from lies but feels nice. The real danger comes when lies stay in the mind for a long time.

Truth as a Divine Gift: Truth is the best thing for humans. God first created light, and light means truth. God gave light to the world, then to humans, and still gives light to good people. Bacon says truth gives a person a high place to stand, like a hill. From there, we can see other people lost in lies. But we should not feel proud. We should feel kind.   

Truth in Daily Life: In real life, truth is also important. Honest people are respected. Lies are like mixing bad metal into gold. It makes the coin weaker. People who lie walk like a snake—low and crooked. Bacon says lying is a shameful thing. A lie is brave against God, but weak in front of people. It means a liar is not respectful towards God, who knows everything. But, he or she is afraid of what people will think, so he or she tells lie to protect himself or herself. In the end, lies will bring God’s judgment. Bacon warns that truth may be hard, but it is always the better path.

Why Bacon Wrote the Essay “Of Truth”: Francis Bacon wrote “Of Truth” to explain the importance of truth in human life. He wanted people to understand that:

• Truth is valuable and powerful.
• Many people avoid the truth because it is hard or uncomfortable.
• People often prefer lies because lies feel nicer or easier.
• But truth leads to wisdom, honesty, and peace.
• Lies bring shame, weakness, and trouble.

সত্যের প্রকৃতি: সত্য হলো উন্মুক্ত ও খাঁটি দিনের আলোর মতো, যা প্রতারণা বা মিথ্যার আশ্রয় না নিয়ে প্রতিটি বিষয়কে স্পষ্টভাবে প্রকাশ করে। Bacon বলেন, সত্য হলো মানব প্রকৃতির সার্বভৌম মঙ্গল/সর্বোচ্চ কল্যাণ। এটি এমন একটি গুণ, যা মানুষ জানতে পারে, বিশ্বাস করতে পারে এবং হৃদয়ে ধারণ করে উপভোগ করতে পারে। যেমন ঈশ্বর পৃথিবীতে আলো দিয়েছেন, তেমনি সত্য মানুষকে জ্ঞানের আলো দেয়। সত্য আমাদের এমন উচ্চ জায়গা থেকে জগৎ দেখতে সাহায্য করে, যেখান থেকে আমরা অন্যদের ভ্রান্তি ও বিচ্যুতি বুঝতে পারি। সত্য আমাদের সহানুভূতিশীল করে তোলে এবং ঈশ্বরের পরিকল্পনার ওপর বিশ্বাস রাখতে শেখায়। সত্য আমাদের মনকে স্থির ও শক্তিশালী রাখে—যেমন কম্পাস সবসময় সঠিক দিক প্রদর্শন করে।

সত্য বনাম মিথ্যা: সত্য খুবই মূল্যবান। এটি মুক্তোর মতো, যা সাধারণ আলোয় সবচেয়ে সুন্দর লাগে। কিন্তু মিথ্যা হীরের মতো—নানারকম আলোয় ঝলমলে করে, কিন্তু প্রকৃতপক্ষে তা খাঁটি নয়। কিছু মানুষ ভুল ধারণায় বিশ্বাস করে। যদি এই ভুল ধারণা সরিয়ে দেওয়া হয়, অনেকেই নিজেকে শূন্য ও দিশাহীন মনে করবে। Bacon বলেন, কবিতা কল্পনার জন্য মদের মতো। এতে মিথ্যার রঙ থাকে, কিন্তু তা মনকে কিছুক্ষণের জন্য আনন্দ দেয়। তবে যখন এই মিথ্যা দীর্ঘদিন মনে বাসা বাঁধে তখন বিপদ সংঘটিত হয়। 

সত্য এক ঈশ্বরপ্রদত্ত উপহার: সত্য মানুষের জন্য সেরা উপহার। ঈশ্বর প্রথমে সৃষ্টি করেন আলো, আর আলো মানেই সত্য। তিনি আলো দেন পৃথিবীকে, তারপর মানুষকে, এবং এখনো ভালো মানুষদের মাঝে এই আলো বিতরণ করেন। Bacon বলেন, সত্য মানুষকে এমন এক উচ্চতায় পৌঁছে দেয়, যেখান থেকে সে স্পষ্টভাবে দেখে কে কোথায় ভুল পথে চলেছে। তবে এখানেও অহংকার নয়, বরং সহানুভূতির মনোভাব থাকা উচিত।
