Tintern Abbey Literary Device
Literary Terms:
- Ode: An Ode is a long lyrical poem that starts with someone’s agony or praise and ends with consolation.
- Blank Verse: Blank verse is a type of poetry that is written in unrhymed iambic pentameter. (Blank verse এ কবিতায় pentameter থাকে। কিন্তু ছন্দের মিল থাকে না। আর Free Verse এ কবিতায় মিটার ও ছন্দের মিল কোনটাই থাকে না।)
- Personification: Giving human qualities to non-human things. Example: “Nature never did betray / The heart that loved her.”
- Metaphor: A direct comparison without using like or as. Example: “A motion and a spirit, that impels / All thinking things…”. Here, the force of nature is metaphorically described as a spirit.
- Imagery: Descriptive language that appeals to the senses. Example: “These waters, rolling from their mountain-springs / With a soft inland murmur.” Visual and auditory imagery of nature.
- The Five Years → Symbolizes the passage of time, personal growth, and change in perspective.
- Tintern Abbey Itself → Represents memory, reflection, and a connection between the past and present.
- Nature → Symbolizes peace, wisdom, healing, and a spiritual guide for human life.
