give gifts They offer light But the uprooters are not pleased They want gold instead Their greed stops them from seeing the beauty of the gift This shows how human desire for wealth can blind people to the real value of nature A third theme is mystery The ending shows the earth lying quiet and unreadable The trees bow like worshippers The snow falls silently Nature becomes godlike It cannot be fully understood So the central theme is a mix of death new life greed and natural mystery It shows how nature holds deep truths
