What is the position of the poet What attitude does he show in his treatment of his subject matter Christina Rossetti s position in the poem Echo is the position of a grieving lover She speaks as someone who has lost the person she loves most She cannot bring that person back in real life So she turns to dreams She asks the lost one to return in the silence of the night This shows her deep sadness It shows her helplessness She knows the past is gone But she still longs for it Her attitude toward the subject is gentle soft and full of sorrow She treats love with great respect She treats memory with pain and sweetness at the same time She calls the dream too sweet too bitter sweet This shows her mixed feelings She loves the dream because it gives her hope But it also hurts

her because it is not real Her attitude is also spiritual She speaks of Paradise She imagines a place where loving souls meet again She wishes her dream could lead her there This shows her hope for life after death It shows her belief in eternal love Her attitude is full of longing She wants closeness again She wants breath for breath She wants the soft voice of her beloved She wants the past to return But she knows it cannot So she waits for dreams Her attitude is tender sad loving and full of desire
