She drinks brandy, champagne, and wine. In Paris cafés like Select and Crillon, she spends her nights. She also stays with Count Mippipopolous, who offers her “ten thousand dollars to go to Biarritz.” Brett enjoys money, drinks, and parties.
Restless and Changing: Brett cannot stay in one place. She moves from Paris to Pamplona for the bullfights. She follows Pedro Romero, the young bullfighter. She tells Jake,
“Oh, darling, I’ve been so miserable.”
Her restless heart makes her change men. She lives a modern, careless lifestyle, full of charm but also sadness.
Lady Brett Ashley lives a restless, drinking, party-filled life. She runs from Paris cafés to Pamplona bullfights. She changes lovers like Robert Cohn, Mike Campbell, and Romero. She loves Jake, but cannot stay with him. Her lifestyle is modern but full of pain.
