The Patriot Quotations

1. “It was roses, roses, all the way,”
Exp: This line shows that a year ago, people loved the Patriot as a hero. They welcomed him with flowers and joy.
2. “There's nobody on the house-tops now—”
Exp: Earlier, people crowded on the rooftops to see the Patriot, even for once. Now everyone has turned away. It shows how quickly people have forgotten his contribution.
3. “I go in the rain, and, more than needs,

A rope cuts both my wrists behind;”

Exp: This line shows his pain and humiliation. Once he was a hero, but now he is being taken for execution.
4. “Stones at me for my year's misdeeds.”
Exp: This shows how the people now hate and blame him. The people has forgotten the patriot’s sacrifice in only a year. Now they are taking to to execution. It shows how quickly public opinion can change, and how unfair society can be.
5. “Thus I entered, and thus I go!...

'Tis God shall repay: I am safer so.”

Exp: These final lines show his faith in God. Though the world has punished him wrongly, he believes God will give him true justice in heaven.
